I made the decision to rent more land in Bodega, and built this little boathouse and dock, so that I can sail at will! I am thrilled.

She Builds ...

Here in Bodega there is a beautiful classical building going up. Young Geoffrion has set out some well-proportioned columns, a horse, a star of some sort, a jar of eyeballs and a lovely calling card from one Osprey Therian. In the background you can see part of Salazar's Tower, and the tip-top of my hollow tree moveable dwelling. It is an exciting time in the neighborhood!

New Neighbor!

Sal said I had a prim allotment because I donated my 512 that comes with my account, so I could build in the Forest of Kahruvel in Bodega. I found this old hollow tree and moved in!

It is a spacious home for a tree. Must have been quite an imposing specimen!

I prefer not to cook at home, so I just have a tiny parlor, with lots of windows to enjoy the light (and spy on people driving by on the road!).

Eventful Evening

I went to Bodega Bay, where I found Osprey about to try out Neal Lyle's airship, which she did. I am in this photo; can you find me lolling there?

Shortly after Osprey left for other places, Salazar arrived and I asked him to show me land I could rent or buy. He then said he could show me somewhere wonderful. Turns out that was Miriel, a private island with beautiful trees, boulders and cliffs. Young joined us there, and we explored a bit.

Five Years in Second Life!

Today is my rezday. Five years ago today I joined Second Life; it took some time to get used to it, what with typing movements, alternating night and day, and building, but I am quite comfortable there now, with my friends and creative work to do.

This is the earliest pic I have, from August of 2004. I am on my deck somewhere (I don't even remember all the places I have lived), with my purchased patio furniture and rug. Now I make most of what I use, but then I really had no clue how to do anything. Thanks to those who understood building, scripting, particles, and those sorts of things, I am able to be a bit more independent, but I still buy stuff that is beyond my capacities.

Second Life has given my life a new dimension. It is not a substitute for but an augmentation of, my First Life.

The Show Really Must Go On!

Our Director, Osprey Therian, has decided to step down (or back), and we are attempting to pilot the ship of our variety show on our own (we = Headburro Antfarm, Lucy Tornado and I).

The show has always been Osprey's project, and we worked hard at it. Now we will continue in a different manner.

We hope to have at least one show a month in our home theatre and one elsewhere, but we have not settled on a real plan yet.

Fuzzy Finds a Flaw

My landlord, the kindly and gentle Salazar Jack, modified the doorway to the west side of my gallery in Grignano (top floor, The Brownstone East), so that it now matches the other entry, but he was unable to move the column (owned by one Osprey Therian of Bodega). Fuzzy discovered this discrepancy (Sal apologized, he was having back problems), and pointed it out for us.

Fuzzy has a very much more accurate SL look, with new flexi hair and a tie.

Going Tiny for the Last Blast of Xmas!

Last night I visited Raglan Shire again, just to see what they were up to. They were just finishing up their Friday Night Game of Primtionary, then all did Tiny Riverdance (I joined in), then they were going to have a movie later.

Zayn Till showed me around the WinterFest, with wonderful decorations and thick sweaters for sale. I made a Snow Angel, rode a Tiny Hoverboard, and generally had a blast.

Zayn was telling me that all this is shortly to be gone, but there would be Valentine's Day and Mardi Gras coming up. These are some PARTYIN (LITTLE) PEOPLE!

I thought running off to smoke was an odd thing to do in the middle of presenting work to a gallery owner. Looking back I realize that we were having at least three conversations at the same time, with Lucy and her mini car, falling off the edge into the ocean, and that he probably did not know I was trying to focus on him and find out what sort of work he did. Oh well.

I made an adaptation of my last solstice tree, and though I am not showing you a video, it rotates, and the stars flash and form a sort of spherical shape on top. The ribbons float beautifully, thanks to Osprey's suggest of negative gravity. Mmmmm nice one this year.

Expedition to Nautilus

Salazar convened the Explorers' Club, and distributed protective suits for us. The newly risen lands on the map were our destination.

Very close to our landing point we found Magellan Linden's crashed Atomic Borer. Osprey said, "I thought I was the only one with an Atomic Borer!" Was she making a wry joke, or ... does she have one?

I climbed into the cockpit of the ship and immediately pushed The Red Button. A voice came over the loudspeaker system saying, "Self-destruct function is not available at this time; please try again later." We all shivered, thinking of what could have happened if it HAD been available!

From there we did some undersea investigating, and found this burnt-out hull, being used by lots of brightly-colored reef fish. Delightful, but not the end of our search.

Later we explored an ornate temple building with lots of crystals providing power. Under the first floor, we also found this very modern looking submarine, which appeared to belong to a rogue (Mole person?) professor. He or she had books lying on the dock, including one titled "World Domination". Frightening in view of what we saw next.

There were lots of these red power crystals, but this was a cluster of the largest ones. They were mesmerizing. An emitter was atop the entire temple, pointed straight into space. There was also an emitter down near the sea, pointed to the East. There were also four stone emitters aimed at the cardinal points of the compass, and from each came a beam of the same light that was emitting from the crystals directly. I was silly enough to break one beam with my head, and fell, unconscious, to the ocean floor.

I had auditory hallucinations ... sleigh bells, a kitten mewling, and other odd fragments of sound. Then I woke to find Salazar swimming nearby, making sure I was all right. A lesson learned! See the entire stream of photos on Flickr.

Helix Meditation

Osprey has this lovely meditation zafu on her pavilion and I used one of Jopsy Pendragon's sample scripts to make a helix particle thingie that I wore while I meditated. I felt serene. Osprey's energy is very low, but she seems to be in good spirits anyway, which I admire. She is quietly heroic and always full of life.

The Show Went On ...

We had our last show for a little while today at the Eleanor Theatre in Phobos. This shot is us backstage. Osprey has her back to us, in her command center. We are all gaggling behind the barrier. Yes, I am sticking my tongue out.

Osprey's Supercollider Dance begins with her on the stage, dancing.

She then leaps up into the moving Supercollider, dancing with her veils on the very edge of the black hole.

She whirls, she twirls, she ... well, she doesn't crawl on her belly like a reptile.

Then BLAMMO, she is sucked into the black hole and never seen again!

Here is the view from the stage during our Cellophane Dancers number. The red lips in the air are RacerX Gullwing's gift to our world, lips that move when one speaks in SL. I have never seen them quite this large before.

Fountain

This is my new fountain / koi pond ... I did a lot of experimenting with particles and finally got some that I think are appropriate. It is really easy to overdo it, but I tried to keep the spray fairly subtle.

If you are wandering around or just enjoying your Second Life, take a trip (dare I say a trippy trip?) to The Particle Laboratory. If you cannot find it, look up Jopsy Pendragon. This avatar has been in Second Life for a very long time, and Jopsy's home in Teal (on the mainland, of course) is a land of delights. There is the lab itself, where you can learn all about creating particles. Every night from sunset to sunrise, there is the fireworks display, unparalleled in my experience. Jopsy has a house there, and there are other parts of the build to visit. Each part has its own surprises.

Osprey showed me this cobra created as a "sculpty", a 3D texture applied to a prim. It was quite lifelike, and it was a package ... snake, pungi, music, animations. Good design ... er you will have to ask Osprey who created this, sorry!

Gaiety Premiere!!

The Show Must Go On troupe has set up at the Gaiety Theatre in Penzance, Caledon. We will be performing there regularly, and our first show was a success, in the sense that the sim did not crash, but we fought some amazingly bad lag. Persephone Gallindo built this gorgeous theatre and the set you see is for the Dancers of the Emerald Isle, an act developed by Maxie Schneider.

Our performance was as lagged and trying as ever, but I am seasoned and can weather things better. Our audience was peppered with friends, thank G'al, and we got through it. For the new performers, it was probably a shock to find out just how difficult it is to do this in performance, as compared to rehearsals, but they all hung in there and did what they had to do. It was a BLAST!

Vernian Sea Lighthouse

In the Vernian Sea stands a lighthouse, mysterious and grand. Sailors on these waters are guided safely to port. The comfortable quarters are well appointed (although for the life of me I cannot tell what use a giant stuffed rabbit might have). Visitors can explore thoroughly and enjoy the beautiful building.

Daring Diamond Robbery!

Caroline Apollo hired Edward Manray, my cousin, to work as a guard at her opening party for her new jewelry store in Lo Lo this evening. A pair of diamond rings, one man's and one a woman's ring, were prominently displayed. After about an hour of merriment, the rings disappeared!

Ed began to question all the guests, some of whom had suspicious responses. The first question was always, "where were you when the rings disappeared?"

Lying Doggo

Osprey was asked to film a blues duo who were, to the best of my understanding, streaming from Japan. I provided ambience, as a wolf.

The juke joint was jumpin, man. These dudes knew their stuff. This was live music I really enjoyed!

I moved at the end of a song and parked my carcass at the back of the stage, while the musicians rocked on.

Osprey was all duded up in her brocade, (EEEK NO HAT!), a balkan sobranie hanging from her lip, the tough yet dainty barmaid.

Grignano Music & Pawn

I took my house down this evening because I was tired of it,and I put up one of Osprey's gorgeous tents. Inside I have my simple black table, on which is my radio, and my TV/slide show, and a comfy armchair.

Makes me think of Matisse, that armchair.

I looked in my Retrospective book of Matissse and found a wonderful quotation I had never read before:

"When I started to paint, I felt transported into a kind of paradise .... In everyday life, I was usually bored and vexed by the things that people were always telling me I must do. Starting to paint, I felt gloriously free, quiet and alone." Ah yes.

I am almost back to what I consider "normal", with my computer all loaded up. Ok this was vectorized in Vector Magic (Stanford University), and then the colors were changed in Photoshop. I am sure this could be done fairly quickly to a batch of images. Foggy Day in Bodega

It was one of those grey, foggy days and my mood matched the weather.

I flew to Steve's cairn and spent a little time in soft sad remembrance.

Looked up and saw AnalogDog and the Empire State Building rising into the foggy sky. Just a passing mood.

Greenbrier Wood Explored

Arriving I wandered the winding road through the Wood along a steep hillside, which made me feel a bit uneasy, as I could not stop from running into things.

I found there some glowing crystals, mysterious and alluring.

A gypsy cart called to me, and I rested for a moment.

I ascended a tower and overlooked the Wood.

The treehouse was, alas, unapproachable.

The island, small and romantic, beckoned on the horizon.

A small gazebo sat on a hillside overlooking the panorama.

Greenbrier Wood is still in development. It is by Adrek Lowell, the same person who created Chakryn Forest.

Ferry Cross the Mersey and BEYOND!

It all began with a jaunt to famous places, one of which was The Cavern, where the Beatles got their start, and thence to the Ferry which Crosses the Mersey.

Osprey has been ribbed quite a bit about having switched to prim hair, but this shot illustrates her charming new hairdo, not to mention her elfin piquance.

Then Young joined us and we decided to visit Versailles, which has a dress code. Osprey and I bought 17th-Century dresses and wigs, and whisked off to the ballroom.

And then there were two. Young was summoned by an Unseen Presence to dine in some Other World. We assume it was a Sumptuous Feast.

We betook ourselves to Missing Mile, in Soap. It was a darkly chaotic town, which provided scooters. In our costumes, we were an oddity, but no one commented, even when we scooted into houses and poked around.

A passage to India provided me with this luscious view, but few sights other than modern houses and sandy islets.

Finally in Taste of India we stood beside a lagoon and conversed with a couple of the habitues, one of whom was attired in Indian style, the other in ... Mondo Bizarro style. Charming people met randomly.

Osprey put "Afghanistan" into the general Search slot and came up with ... Travlin Mendicant! We have not seen him for many a month; perhaps he was caught in some scam or other and jailed in a bleak and desolate place. Shades of "The Comedians"!

Flight of Dreams

I spent some idle, happy time with Young, who has returned from her exotic travels. She was kind enough to take me to see two of the sites she had mentioned in her blog, Far Away,and Chakryn Forest.

The wheatfield of dreams is melancholy and exuberant at once. The violin transports us to a video voyage.

Young made herself a delectable corpse, posing as Marat in his final moments (as portrayed by David's painting).

At the end of this tour, we sat quietly conversing on eternal verities (Death is an Appointment with the Cosmic Dentist) in the Forest. Serene time taken to appreciate our World.

Caught in the Act

Salazar took this great pic of The Droplettes in the midst of our act. To elucidate, this is a photo from inside a tiki bar drink looking at spilled Mai Tai. The droplets are dancing and so is the two-cherry, orange slice drink decoration.

Today Osprey recorded our act for posterity, whoever that may be.

I Was Sailing Along ...

I was just sailing and enjoying the afternoon, when I spied Khamon Fate looking like he was in a trance, in the water. I spoke to him but he did not respond.

I dove in and swam to him, thinking he might be drowning. I planned to help him to shore.

He seemed unresponsive*, so I swam on, pondering his fate (pun intended).
He later called me to say I had seen his ghost (!!??!!), and that he is fine.

In fact, I swam to Osprey's place on Bodega Bay, which looked so inviting.

I lay down in the late afternoon sun and slept.

When I awoke it was very late indeed, and getting chilly, so I went home to dress for dinner.

I saw these strings of star lights at Ingrid Ingersoll's apartment in Grignano the other day and admired them. I IM'd Lo Jacobs to ask if she sold them, and she very kindly gave me a set with full permissions!

I put them up on my house this evening, while visiting with Osprey. I commented that it was very "old SL" of Lo to give them to me. She said it seemed like decades had passed since we first lived in SL. Things have changed a lot, it is true, but people are still generous, at least some of them are.

Today I was talking on IM to HBA and he said he was having an epic battle, Combat Card style. He said it was going on forevah, because they were so evenly matched. I said (untruthfully, if you must know) I would fly to his side and bind up his wounds.

When I arrived in the sky above HBA Island, he handily dispatched his opponent, one Pinkie Delcon, on the left in the photo. She claims to be a hellcat, but she looked more pussycat to me, even with her Shoes of Death.

HBA somehow got involved in Ed's frameup for the murder of someone named Gandalf(?), who I think is really Fuzzy Bunyip, but no matter. Ed told HBA Eileen would know if Oz was trying to frame Ed. She did not think so. She thinks that if Oz wanted to harm Ed he would simply kill him with a car bomb.

In the process of discussing all this, she got to see HBA's cave, which she liked except for the octopus, which she says is ookie.

Another Photo Studio

Last night I spoke with Anhinga Chaika, whom I had met at Tempietto, Young Geoffrion's amazing build. We spoke of coyotes, so I gave her my Coyote painting and my Coyote outfit. She invited me to her photography studio, where she made some headshots for me. She does portrait work and has a fully-equipped studio.

Later her friend IF arrived, a red wolf. I changed into my wolf look, and we exchanged thoughts for a while, but then I had to go to bed (we wolves/coyotes need our sleep).

Lucy, I'm Home!

Lucy is back! I was sitting conversing with her on all sorts of spiritual and philosophical subjects, in the room she uses on her friend's land. She says that some people are upset that she is homeless, but that it does not bother her at all.
We are both looking forward to the new show!

Nasty Spiky Cudgel

Osprey told me there was a spiky nasty thing on the ground at the Combat Cards area in Europa, but nothing was there. She arrived and restored it, and gave me one of my very own.

Now I have a mace/cudgel! Not something I have dreamed of owning, but it is quite threatening, so I will whip it out in case of bandits.

Note Hal in the background, with his red-hot glowing sword. He is made of "leftovers" Os said ... so she had leftover brains, bones, and so forth. Makes ya wonder ... what are they leftovers from? Some meal she had weeks ago? Were they refrigerated?

City Streets Awards

Today we had the awards ceremony for the City Streets photography contest. I used the speaker HUD I got from Ida, which was scripted by Theo. I shocked Osprey using this mechanical voice, but it was much easier for me. I usually type the words into a notecard and then copy and paste them into the chat slot, but this way all I had to do was click the HUD.

HBA won with his moody shot of a low sun in a canyon of tall buildings. I think he was surprised. He really admired the very beautiful and skillful piece by Makeda, which is impressive, but the judges chose ambience over technique.

Kahruvel Design

I have not been wandering in Nova Albion for some time, but today I found myself floudering in a canal, after the roadway gave way under my feet. I leapt out and found myself in Kahruvel Design. There was a black and white video of Osprey and Salazar doing the High Flyers in their street clothes, a link to Salazar's website, and a Wired magazine article on Second Life. What a nice way to get out of drowning!

RatePoint Concert Hall

Elliott Eldrich has been a friend now for a while. He was very kind to me at an event, when I was feeling out of place. Since then, he has been doing builds of various kinds. This one was done as a gift to Circe Broom, and it is spectacular ... ornate, lush, it is a jewel box of a concert hall. I hope there will be many concerts!

Ed Does the Town(s)

Ed was in Nova Albion doing research on his upcoming detective clue hunt, when he stopped at the Miramare Infohub (a magnificent Salazar Jack build that everyone should see, by the way). There he met a group of young people who call themselves The Miramare Brickwarmers.

He was intrigued by their lack of experience with our world, and took them to the Seaside Village, which they loved. Unfortunately they got stuck between floors on the lighthouse elevator, but by and large they seemed to enjoy themselves.

He then escorted them to HBA Island for drinks and they sat around the campfire for a bit. Then he had to race off to see Johanssen Scarborough do Wizard fighting, and finally he went to Combat Cards in Europa, where he fought and died and ran into Maxie Schneider, among other friends. Whew! Ed gets around (uh, he is usually hiding out in his office or behind the office in his apartment, so this is a good thing for him to do).

I was at home looking in the mirror at my new SensiDress (NOT shown above), which does not quite perform as advertised (it lifts up when I sit, exposing my lovely undergarments for all to see), when I saw that Young Geoffrion was at home. I called her and she was kind enough to invite me to come view her mentor's work-in-progress. Dr. Fluxus was not in at the time, but a neighbor came by to visit, and we all made fabulously smart remarks to one another. It was scintillating stuff.

IDA CAME BACK!!! One of the most delightful features of The Show Must Go On! is the friends I have made ... and one of the greatest artistes in our troupe is Miss Ida Keen.

I hope she can stay with us in the new show. She is having vertigo issues, so I am not sure she will be able to handle the Knitters! She was a big part of that collaboration, so it is ironic.

We performed our complete show for the last time, at our home stage in Phobos. It went well, and the Humans were at their naughtiest!

For whatever reason, our show has attracted hecklers, and this performance was no exception. However in this case, we had one particularly unpleasant person who stayed after our show just to let us know she did not like it.

To (mis)quote a good friend: "If you are not a fun-loving sort, why attend a vaudeville show; then, realizing it is not to your taste, why stay through the entire thing?" Good question!

We created our acts as parodies of all sorts of entertainment, with opposites abounding. The dog trains the humans, a ballerina dances with a hippo, a gigantic snake gets loose in the audience. This is not Arthur Miller, folks, and if that is what you want, please go elsewhere!

The Show Must Go On! is a traveling variety show featuring short acts strung together with no rhyme or reason. From the snappy dancing Droplettes to the meditative Undergrowth, the show takes advantage of the strengths of Second Life and aims to please. I want to say this is the first event of the Renaissance festival, but I am not really sure about the schedule. Tinies danced in wonderful forms to flute drum and lute ... I met Professor Headonius Burroffski today, of Miskatonic University. He has been shipwrecked on an island that does not appear on any of the maps I have seen. I fell from a balloon while we were flying overhead, and the pilot never noticed that I had fallen. I am trying to find my traveling party, and perhaps they can be persuaded to return to this island to rescue the Professor!

Osprey made a butterfly board for avatars, and last night we played on it a little. A newbie came by, and we invited him to impale himself with us, which he did. We could change position by clicking on the head of the pin. At first Osprey had on her moth outfit, but then she liked it better as a human. Kinda masochistic but really fun!

I went exploring at Burning Life and found this build of the four ancient elements, with a green human as the fifth element, or quintessence, above a globe that was placed with what we call South upwards, which made it all the more interesting. Salazar built this great theatre in Heron Sanctuary. It is the same basic design as the one in Phobos, our home base, but it is fully enclosed, to help prevent lag, which is debilitating to the actors.

We had a The Show Must Go On rehearsal in our new stage at Heron Sanctuary and Madame Caramel was playing congas when Salazar and Osprey arrived. Sal is sitting on a bar of super dark chocolate that he later shared with us. The stage, built by Salazar, is enclosed in a brick building and it has a proscenium arch of sorts.
